For some, September 8th is just another average day on the calendar, but for fans of the legendary sci-fi franchise, Star Trek, it’s so much more than that! For close to 6 decades, the pop-culture phenomenon has been on our screens, and each year, the universe expands to make room for more films, TV series, video games, novels and comics, making it one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.
As the fan base continues to grow, it makes sense that there would be a day dedicated to celebrating this epic saga, and what better day to commemorate the franchise than the anniversary that the original series first aired?
As you can imagine, many parties and events of all scales have been taking place across the country in honour of Star Trek day, and here in Derbyshire, Hog Roast Matlock was delighted to attend one of these celebrations! For this year’s anniversary, super-fan Adrian, wanted to go all out, so he booked a venue and hired our caterers to serve a magnificent spread to his 250 guests.
Having fallen in love with the sci-fi series as a small child, Adrian knows all there is to know about Star Trek, and many of his friendships were founded on a shared love of the franchise, so for him, it was crucial that the event ran smoothly. The hall he hired for the event had allowed him free reign with the decorations, so he had transformed the space into something which mirrored the inside of the Enterprise.
For the meal, Adrian had selected our Gourmet BBQ Menu with additional antipasti platters and a grazing table for the guests. Martin, who is our catering manager here at Hog Roast Matlock, was honoured to help Adrian bring his vision to life, and on the day of the party, he and the team arrived early to prepare a massive buffet of handmade burgers, gourmet sausages, chicken kebabs, spareribs and vegetable skewers, which were presented with Greek salad, coleslaw, mixed fries and Italian-charcuterie boards.
Everyone attended wearing fancy dress, which added to the atmosphere of the event, and to Adrian’s delight, they were all very impressed with the spread Hog Roast Matlock had put on. Our grazing table, which was covered in scotch eggs, finger sandwiches, sausage rolls, crisps and other nibbles was a huge hit among the group and it kept them going all night long!
