Our Hog Roast Bakewell team love a good wedding so we were delighted to be asked to cater a wedding reception fairly local to us, in Great Longstone. This pretty, limestone Peak District village is just two miles from Bakewell and the venue, Orrs Farm, is situated on Main Street itself. For this wedding meal, we would be cooking for 145 guests, providing reception drinks and various canapés, a scrumptious hog roast buffet as well as sausages, and an alternative dish for vegetarians. We serve the hog roast with our own tasty apple sauce and sage and onion stuffing, as well as bread rolls and wraps so the guests can make pigs in buns. Additionally, with this menu, the bride and groom-to-be choose either four salad dishes or seasonal vegetables and a potato option such as jacket wedges, a new potato salad, jacket potatoes, warm new potatoes in a herb butter, or roasted new potatoes in rosemary and garlic. The yummy veggie option of vegetable skewers would include fresh cherry tomatoes, mixed peppers, courgette and onion, as well as a dip and pitta breads.
As you can see, Hog Roast Bakewell provides a lot of variety. Don’t be fooled by our name that we only cook hog roasts, even though they are our fantastic speciality that we’ve perfected over many years. We know that variety is key as everyone’s tastes are different, and we always ensure there are options for those guests who can’t or won’t eat the meat. Our vegetarian and vegan dishes are loved as much as the meat dishes, and many people have thanked us for providing gluten-free and dairy-free options, so that they’re not left out on a special occasion.
On the day of the lovely wedding, our Hog Roast Bakewell team arrived hours before service to prepare and cook the hog, and then nearer serving time, cooked the sausages and the veggie kebabs. We would be serving the food on bamboo plates, which are environmentally friendly and great to look at. By 2pm, the long queues started and we got ready to serve up slices of heaven.
