Saddles, Celebrations, and Southern Slow Roast: A Riding Club’s 25th Anniversary Bash with Hog Roast Edale

What a ride! This past weekend, Hog Roast Edale had so much fun being part of a truly unforgettable event—the 25th-anniversary celebration of a local riding club that has been teaching kids and teens the art of horse riding for a quarter of a century. And let me tell you, the event was as vibrant and spirited as the riders themselves!

Hog Roast EdaleHosted by the club’s wonderful owner, Robyn, this milestone celebration took place right at the stables. The field was transformed ahead of the festivities with a charming gazebo, complete with dining furniture, and an atmosphere that brimmed with pure excitement. The air was filled with live music, the thrill of raffles, and, of course, the clattering of hooves as everyone came together for a fantastic afternoon of fun.

But as top-notch as the entertainment was, it was the food that really cinched this event’s success! Hog Roast Edale’s catering manager, Martin, rolled up his sleeves and served up a feast straight out of the Deep South!

Our Southern Slow Roast Menu, which was an absolute hit, consisted of juicy BBQ pork butt, Cajun-spiced whole-roast chickens, and Louisiana sticky pork ribs so tender they fell away from the bone. For vegans, we had pulled jackfruit drenched in a smokey hickory BBQ sauce, topped with plant-based coleslaw—so scrumptious it turned even the most devoted meat lovers into fans!

But what’s a feast without some killer sides? We complimented the big, bold flavours with sides that were just as irresistible. Hog Roast Edale’s ultra-cheesy mac and cheese, creamy potato salad with a zesty pickle kick, and Memphis-style crunchy coleslaw added the perfect finishing touches to the meal. The combination of these sides with our meaty mains created a flavour explosion that guests couldn’t get enough of. We saw plenty of guests returning for seconds—and we may have even caught a few sneaking in some plate-licking action!

The day was a roaring success—not just because of the amazing food but also because Robyn smashed her fundraising goal. With the funds raised, the riding club will soon be able to invest in new equipment, making the next 25 years even better for the kids.
