We have only carried on what has been such an incredible history of hog roasting, dating back to at least the time of the Saxons in Germany before they settled in parts of England and France and became more commonly known as the Anglo-Saxons.
The hog roast was originally known as a boar roast and would typically be seen as the centrepiece during Yuletide celebrations. At such celebrations, the head would often be considered as the greatest delicacy. Now at Hog Roast Wirksworth events, we want all that good fatty and tasty meat from the main body!
But it wasn’t just the UK where the great traditions of hog roasting were settling. All around the world, multiple cultures have had multiple variations of a pig or hog roast. In Indonesia, for example, it was near enough a must for a hog roast, or babi guling, to offered by the bride’s family at a wedding. In many Spanish speaking countries like Cuba and Puerto Rico, the lechon asado is very popular for New Year’s Eve and Christmas celebrations, and the Spanish community has since had its influence in the United States with pig roasts becoming a popular summer dish in the barbecues most often attributed to the southern states.
